Near-isogenic lines for resistance to brown planthopper with the genetic background of Indica Group elite rice (<i>Oryza sativa</i> L.) variety ‘IR64’

چکیده

The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens Stål, is an insect pest that severely damages rice (Oryza sativa L.) in Asia, causing huge yield loss. Use of resistant variety a cost-effective and eco-friendly strategy for maintaining BPH populations below the economic injury level. However, current have been changed to virulence against varieties. In this study, estimate effective combinations among eight resistance genes (BPH32, BPH17-ptb, BPH20, BPH17, BPH3, BPH25, BPH26 qBPH6), near-isogenic lines with genetic background Indica Group ‘IR64’ (IR64-NIL) were developed using marker-assisted selection. genome recoveries these NILs ranged from 89.3% 98.8% agronomic traits them similar those ‘IR64’. modified seed box screening test, level IR64-NILs was higher than antibiosis high adult mortalities (from 56.0% 97.0%) observed NILs, comparison Among IR64-NILs, line carrying BPH17 showed highest at all tests. Thus, multiple could be valuable breeding enhancing levels by gene pyramiding multiline variety.

Characterization of near-isogenic lines carrying QTL for high spikelet number with the genetic background of an indica rice variety IR64 (Oryza sativa L.)

Total spikelet number per panicle (TSN) is one of the most important traits associated with rice yield potential. This trait was assessed in a set of 334 chromosomal segment introgression lines (ILs: BC(3)-derived lines), developed from new plant type (NPT) varieties as donor parents and having the genetic background of an indica-type rice variety IR64. Among the 334 ILs, five lines which had d...

Development and evaluation of near-isogenic lines for brown planthopper resistance in rice cv. 9311

Brown planthopper (BPH) is the most destructive pest of rice in Asia. To date 29 BPH resistance genes have been identified, but only a few genes are being used in breeding due to inefficient markers for marker-assisted selection (MAS) and little knowledge of the real effects of the genes. In this study we individually transferred 13 genes or QTLs (Bph14, QBph3, QBph4, Bph17, Bph15, Bph20, Bph24...

SSR mapping of brown planthopper resistance gene Bph9 in Kaharamana, an Indica rice (Oryza sativa L.).

The brown planthopper (BPH) is one of the most serious insects pests of rice, and the host resistance has been recognized as one of the most economic and effective measures for BPH management. In this study, we conducted a molecular-based genetic analysis of Bph9 in Kaharamana, a Sri Lanka rice variety resistant to BPH insects of East and Southeast Asia. An F2 segregating population composed of...

Identification of quantitative trait loci associated with resistance to brown planthopper in the indica rice cultivar Col.5 Thailand.

The brown planthopper (BPH) is one of the most serious insect pests of rice throughout Asia. In this study, we constructed a linkage map to determine the locus for BPH resistance gene, using an F(2) population from a cross between a resistant indica cultivar, 'Col.5 Thailand', and a susceptible cultivar '02428'. Insect resistance was evaluated using 147 F(3) families and the genotype of each F(...

Genetic mapping of the rice resistance-breaking gene of the brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens.

Host plant resistance has been widely used for controlling the major rice pest brown planthopper (BPH, Nilaparvata lugens). However, adaptation of the wild BPH population to resistance limits the effective use of resistant rice varieties. Quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis was conducted to identify resistance-breaking genes against the anti-feeding mechanism mediated by the rice resistance...
